    The BritRail Pass is available to international visitors and travelers in the UK. You are only eligible to purchase a BritRail Pass if you are not a UK resident. The one exception is for UK residents traveling with an international pass holder if they purchased the BritRail Guest Pass.
    Note: residents of the Republic of Ireland are eligible to purchase a BritRail Pass, whereas residents of Northern Ireland are not.

    The BritRail Pass must be bought before you arrive in the UK and can only be used by visitors and travelers who do not reside in the UK, unless sharing a BritRail Guest Pass.

    BritRail Passes can be bought up to 180 days before the first day of validity of your pass.

    When booking a rail pass, you may be prompted to enter the first day of use. This refers to the day you plan on boarding your first train. This date will be printed on your rail pass.

    For Eurail and BritRail Passes: The first day of use refers to your estimated first day of travel. Travel may commence on or after the first day of use, as long as it’s prior to pass expiration. For example, if you leave the first day of use as today you have 6 months to start using your pass. Please note, travel may not commence prior to the first day of use.

    Shipping times and shipping fees depend on where you live but here are some general guidelines. For more details please visit our shipping page.

    The shipping method will depend on your location. We ship worldwide from one of our four distribution centers. For more details please visit our shipping page.

    First Class has larger seats, picture windows, more space both for you and your baggage and is usually less crowded. On many routes First Class offers extras, including free tea and coffee. Some routes even offer free snacks and newspapers. Certain long haul routes have table or buffet services.

    First Class is always at the London end of the platform which eliminates any long walk at the London terminal! Most commuter routes radiating from the big cities have First Class accommodation. Here the benefit is especially noticeable on trains during busy rush hour.

    You can count on all principal routes having First Class accommodations but please note that some rural routes offer Standard Class accommodations only. First Class Pass prices do reflect the fact that not all trains have First Class.

    The BritRail Pass offers you the following benefits:

    • Discover Britain beyond London;
    • Enjoy hassle free travel with no lines for tickets;
    • Travel on any train in the UK without having to buy additional tickets;
    • Travel in peak periods, including mornings, evenings and Fridays;
    • Enjoy the flexibility of changing your travel plans as you go;
    • Hop off at stations en route as you fancy;
    • Take long journeys, such as from London to Scotland;
    • Make circular tours or several shorter journeys.

    After considering the list of benefits it becomes clear that BritRail’s range of passes offers great value and savings. It’s truly the most convenient and economical way to explore Britain where the rail network, with over 19,000 daily train departures, allows access to 2,500 fascinating destinations in England, Scotland and Wales.

    The BritRail Flexi Pass is valid for a specific period of validity and can be used for travel on the days of your choice within the period of validity. A BritRail Consecutive Pass is valid for a number of days regardless of how many times you use your pass. A good rule of thumb when selecting which pass is best for your travel plans is:

    • A Consecutive Pass is ideal for those travelers whose time is restricted and will be ‘on the move’
    • A Flexi Pass is ideal for those travelers who wish to linger several days or more in one location.

    If you have a specific journey to make between 2 selected stations, then a point to point ticket is right for you. Select from 2 types of point to point tickets including: BritRail Point to Point Tickets and Tickets on Departure & Reservation.

    BritRail point to point tickets: A BritRail Point to Point Ticket is valid without restriction on the route specified on the ticket. This means that you can use it on any train, at any time and stop over at any station en route to your destination. A BritRail Point to Point Ticket is a paper ticket that is shipped to you.

    Tickets on Departure & Reservation (TOD): A Ticket on Departure & Reservation is valid for a specific date, time and seat on a specific train. A Ticket on Departure & Reservation is provided to you electronically. For more details on the three ticket categories please click here.

    Special offers are not refundable. There is no refund for partially used Passes or Tickets. Passes or Tickets presented on or after the first day of validity are considered partially used. Also, no refund can be made if the Pass or Ticket cannot be produced. Having a pass does not guarantee a seat, therefore it is advisable to reserve a seat especially if you plan on travelling at peak times, during holidays, on long haul trains or are on a tight schedule.

    If you have a BritRail Pass or a BritRail Point to Point Ticket, then you can make seat reservations per person, per train for a nominal fee. Although reserving a seat is not required, it is recommended if you want peace of mind and an assured a seat on a specific train. Perhaps you have a plane to catch and don’t want to chance it or you want to travel during rush hour and don’t want to stand among the crowd.

    Other cases where seat reservations are advisable include: peak time on long haul trains just before Christmas, around Easter, and Summer Saturdays to the West Country, Friday afternoons out of London in Standard Class, early mornings on weekdays in First Class, and groups taking long journeys. Also, reservations are required if you are traveling on an overnight train such as the Caledonian Sleeper from London to Scotland.

    However if you are not traveling at night or on a tight schedule, then there is no need to reserve a seat as trains in Britain run frequently on most of the network and it is therefore perfectly acceptable to ‘turn up and go’. In Britain, frequency is what makes touring so easy!

    The Caledonian Sleeper train can transport you overnight between London and Scotland helping you save the cost of a night’s hotel. The Caledonian Sleeper is available as an On-Request product. Contact our rail specialists so they can help complete your booking. Call 1-866-938-7245 (North America only) or send us an email at info@acprail.com.

    Passes are issued open dated and must be validated within six months from the date of issue and prior to the first use. To validate a rail pass, present it along with your passport to the Railway official at the station of departure. At this time, the first and the last day of validity of the pass, as well as the passport number is entered and the passenger must sign the pass. Under no circumstances is the pass holder allowed to validate his or her own pass. In the case of a Flexi Pass, the passenger must enter the date of travel each day before he/she boards the first train of the day.

    A travel day is a 24hr period from midnight to midnight, during which time you can travel on as many trains as you wish.

    To find train times that are best suited to your journey, begin the booking process for a point to point ticket by selecting the appropriate departing station, along with the date and preferred time. The results will be customized to your request.

    The BritRail Pass is not valid on London City Transport Services, such as the bus, the tube or the light rail. The BritRail Pass is valid on the UK’s National Rail network.

    The BritRail Pass and BritRail England Pass can be used to board the Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airport Express trains. Doing so, uses a day on your pass and allows you can board as many trains as you wish on that same day. The BritRail London Plus Pass is not valid on the Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airport Express trains but if you order from Canada or the United States, your pass will come with two extra vouchers that will let you travel for free on any of the airport express trains.

    On board, train carriages have overhead luggage racks, space between the seats and a storage area in the entrance vestibules for larger items. Most main stations generally have luggage trolleys often with staff to help you for a nominal charge.

    The Railways of Britain welcome disabled travelling and are committed to making widespread improvements to stations and trains to make travel easier.

    All railway companies have facilities for passengers needing assistance. Examples are special compartments for wheelchair users, lifts or mobile ramps to access the train, assistance boarding by trained staff or toilets suitable for disabled travelers. A passenger needing assistance is requested to contact the local train station or Train Operating Company (TOC) at least one day before their journey.

    If you are unsure as to the number of the station or the TOC to contact, please contact National Rail Enquiries when in the UK at 08457 48 49 50. They will be able to give you contact information for the station and particular TOC.
