To my surprise, the BritRail M-Pass arrived not as an electronic pass in standard format for storage in the Apple Wallet, but as a PDF that had to be downloaded from email and then stored somewhere on my phone. I ended up putting it in the Apple Books app. The PDF was a single very long, narrow page such that I had to manually zoom in on the pass every time I wanted to use it; otherwise the QR code would be too small to read. Even with the PDF zoomed in to enlarge the QR code, the pass failed to scan correctly at many railway gates and we had to be waved through by railway staff. That said, all the railway station staff and train conductors recognized the pass and we didn't have any difficulty getting it accepted for travel. It was great to be able to hop on any train at any time and not worry about peak vs off-peak fares or having to buy tickets weeks in advance for the best price. We roughly planned our itinerary in advance but the M-Pass allowed us to change plans freely as we went along. We didn't use the trains every day so the pass cost us approximately the same as if we had bought individual advance tickets, but it allowed us much more flexibility of plans and we didn't have to pay the steeper price for last-minute fares. Overall the BritRail program is GREAT for travelers; I just wish the pass would be formatted for compatibility with the Apple Wallet.

This is a brilliant Pass - takes all the hassle out of train travel and means no higher prices to travel during rush hour. I'd recommend this to anyone!

We purchased the 15 day Brit Rail pass IN ADVANCE for our first trip to England. We were there two weeks and saw every coast and corner of the UK. Not only was it great value for the money (saved us over $400 CAD) but it also encouraged us to keep exploring instead of staying in one area of the country. the only glitch was we had it on our phones and about half the gates couldn't read us but there was always helpful rail staff to get us through. the trains were always on time, easy to find seating and clean. loved the beverage service for the rushed trips. As we were from out of country our pass wouldn't let us reserve seats in advance but we just made sure we weren't travelling during rush hours and there was not problem getting good seats. I will definitely buy another on our next trip when visiting Europe.

If you’re planning on traveling by train then I recommend you buy this pass. We had the 4 day flexipass. Good for any 4 days within 31 days. On your first day of travel you need to get it validated at the ticket counter after that you’re good to go. No more line ups for buying tickets. We saved around $500 with the pass compared to buying a ticket for each trip. It was accepted on all trains throughout England. So easy and convenient to use. Just board the train, show the pass and that’s it. No hassle at all. The Britrail pass is a must for anyone considering train travel as your main transportation. Highly recommend it.

This was my second time to travel in the UK with the rail pass and will do so again in the future. Excellent value for money and no limitations on the type of trains to board. Rail pass made it possible for my family to enjoy holidays in the UK without the need to rent a car.

I've used BritRail passes for several years now and have been extremely pleased, especially with the First Class pass, which is particularly nice for longer trips (e.g., London to Edinburgh). In fact, just one round trip from London to Scotland more than pays for the entire pass! Britain is not cheap for travelers, but the BritRail pass is a huge bargain, with savings in money and, perhaps even more, convenience. You can "hop on" and "hop off" with no complications or mandatory seat reservations. I wouldn't think of going to the UK without one!

Using the M-pass was easy and really convenient. I love that with the Britrail passes I can take whatever train I need to, so if I miss one I can just grab the next one. This makes my traveling flexible so I can switch my schedule around on a moment's notice. Definitely worth the price, especially with as much as I use the trains when I'm in the UK.

As a solo traveler from the States, decided rail was a better idea than trying to drive on the wrong side of the road (!) and navigate at the same time. Followed directions and pass worked like a charm. Trains were on the dot departing and arriving. Had only one crowded segment to York on Saturday (soccer games). Very easy to get around and everything is clearly marked and explained--if there's any confusion, someone is happy to help. Would use the train and pass again.
