Brilliant-When it worksPhillip King ,AustraliaAge: 50-59December 07, 2013
I bought the South West pass because I wanted to see England between Penzance and Portsmouth. When it works, the system is brilliant. However, I suspect that there are infrastructure problems because I was delayed twice because of equipment failure (points and signals). Not a major problem but it is frustrating sitting on a stationary train, not knowing when your journey will resume. Another point to note. Other train Companies such as Crosscountry Trains operate on the First Great Western and South West Trains network. Your pass is valid on these trains as well, as long as you don't go outside the zone. In conclusion; despite the minor hiccups a very satisfying experience.

I was riding to the coast as we approached Wincester. The old song about the Winchester Cathedral started going though my head. With my pass, I could get off and finally hear the bell and see the church and then continue on my way.

We enjoyed the trip from Gatwick to Falmouth, although it was very long. Has fascinated us, a small group of travelers who unpacked her guitar on the journey on the train, played music and sang. At such a great idea that people do not come in Germany! In addition, we had a great view of the vegetation, the rivers, canals, harbors and the sea. We are very excited to ride in one or two years back through Cornwall.

We used the 2-days travel within 30 days ticket first class to get from London to Penzance and back. Pleasant travel in coaches with a touch of good old English. Friendly staff in trains. Remarkable is the Pullman dining offered on this route. Not cheap but good value for a fresh cooked, at the table served meal. One should not miss this. Unfortunately this service is offered only on certain trains. The First-class waiting room of First Great Western at London Paddington is a very nice place to wait for your train. A little bit more cleanliness in the coach would be desirable.

Train travel when you wantJohn Chapman ,AustraliaSeptember 24, 2013
We flew into Heathrow on a Friday afternoon for a holiday in Devon and Cornwall. 5 minutes after leaving immigration and customs we were having our Brit Rail passes activated and then straight onto Heathrow Express. On arrival at Paddington station we had an easy walk on the level to the platform where the next South West train was waiting and within 10 minutes we were on our way to Exeter. If we had pre-booked tickets we might have missed the connection or have been waiting unnecessarily. With the Brit Rail pass you can jump on any train. A disadvantage is that you may need to look through the carriages for unreserved seats. However you can pick a peak time train without noticing the cost and have the choice of multiple trains daily on the main routes. On overseas holidays you have many worries about travel especially missing connections and anything that reduces worry will enhance your enjoyment. My family have bought Britrail passes 3 times now and we think them very good value.

A perfect vacationLars Gustafsson ,SwedenAge: 40-49September 24, 2013
The Southwest pass gave us a perfect opportunity to explore a part of England we never visited before. We had much fun planning the tour and even more fun doing it. Places like Brockenhurst and Totnes were just as nice as in our imaginations when we sat in our house in Sweden and planned our summer holiday. The trains where nice and comfortably and the service om the railstations where very very good. We met wonderful people that helped us to find the nices places and the freedom the pass gave us was really nice.

good valueMarilyn Brazel ,AustraliaAge: 60+September 17, 2013
Great way to travel. Efficient, mostly on time, clean and the staff are friendly. Only one complaint, the 'quiet car' from Penzance to Paddington was anything but quiet. Plenty of announcements about the need to be quiet, but the offenders wouldn't have heard them because they were talking non-stop in loud voices.

liked the flexibilityUlrich Mustar ,GermanyAge: 50-59September 18, 2013
I very much liked the flexibility of this pass, as a tourist it is important to define and change plans and routes without needing to think about the kind of ticket that one bought.
