BritRail Seat Reservations

When traveling with a BritRail Pass you will enjoy the flexibility of hopping on any train throughout Britain’s National Rail Network. To accommodate this spontaneous travel style, seat reservations aren’t required so you can take any available seat on the train of your choice. However please keep in mind that there are certain instances where reserving a seat is recommended if you want to guarantee travel on a specific train, date and time. For example if you want to travel:

  • during peak times, such as on weekdays traveling to/from London at rush hour
  • around national Bank Holidays
  • with travel companions, where sitting together is a must
  • on a long-haul route or other route that has infrequent departures
  • with a tight connection, to catch a flight or important event you can’t miss

If you find yourself with travel plans that fall within these examples then booking BritRail Seat Reservations in advance of arriving in Britain is a great way to ensure you don’t miss your selected train! It’s easy to make a BritRail Seat Reservation by entering your route for almost any inter-city train, and selecting the train departure time that suits you best. A valid BritRail Pass is required and you will be charged a nominal fee per person, per train.

A BritRail Seat Reservation is valid for the specific train, date and time selected at booking. Seat reservations are available in adult fares, in either First or Standard Class but please note that the Class must match the Class on your BritRail Pass. In other words, if your BritRail Pass is valid for travel in Standard Class then you cannot make a seat reservation to travel in First Class.

These reservations are for BritRail Pass holders only. The Pass must be valid for the date of travel indicated on the seat reservation. BritRail Passes are available to international visitors only so BritRail Seat Reservations are also available to everyone except UK residents.
