Four of us traveled together and the passes worked fine for us. We only did a sketchy check of the cost of the passes vs. the cost of individual tickets, but it appeared to be a good value. Just having to flash the passes instead of stopping to buy tickets is worth something in itself, and saved us from missing the train we wanted more than once. Our only difficulty was with learning which seats we could sit in. Since the passes are for open seats, you have to avoid seats that have been reserved. On a couple of crowded trains, it was a bit of a hunt to find unreserved seats but ultimately we always did. Generally, it was not an issue.

The passes made the train trips hassle free and enabled us to organise our journey around the country to coincide with bus and rental car. At the time of use the timetables hadn't been changed so touring was not as difficult as it may have been in June.

We started badly with a very unpleasant woman in the Glasgow office who validated our Flexipasses but then took it on herself to write May 1 as the first day of travel when our first day of travel was to be May 2. It was corrected by other pleasant staff who also pre-booked seats for all our major journeys. Everything worked very well EXCEPT that in order to get onto and off platforms through most of the UK you have to swipe a card at a booth which you cannot do with a Pass. Sometimes there was no person present to let us through and we had to wait. I also thought it very bizarre that in First Class on Southwest, I could have free tea, coffee and cookies but not water which was all I wanted !!!! We used Scotrail, Virgin, Cross Country, Great Western, Southwest and Glasgow Express Overall, it is tremendous value for money and although not all journeys had first class coaches, it is worthwhile paying the extra for First Class

I purchased a flexible 4 day pass. The pass was easy to use, arrived when it was supposed to and saved me a substantial amount of money as some of my travel was at the end of the Easter break. I would recommend to anyone who is doing much train travel on short notice. The only two issues I had with the pass were: 1)trying to make reservations- I could not (did not understand) how to make reservations for my first train ride when I got to the UK which meant I did not have a seat from London to Edinburgh (a few hours without a seat on the ride)on a very busy Friday afternoon. The other issue is that the representatives at the train station ticket desks did not seem to want to help me out once I said I had a pass (perhaps they get some type of bonus for the number of tickets they sell??? -in fact a couple were quite dismissive and rude but that has nothing to do with the passes and more to do with the train providers' services I guess. All-in-all I would recommend to anyone who does not have a long time ahead to plan and work out their entire trip on cheap advance fairs.

Booked a England M-pass first class. It's simply amazing value. Not need to worry about missing trains, changing plans, or travelling at peak times. And the M pass is so much simpler than the paper ones: it arrives instantly and not postage charge. However, no station barriers accepted the bar code. So allow extra time at stations to wait for the inspectors to open the gates. Very few staff I came across had bar code readers, so you have to hand over your phone for them to read the details. Almost all on ticket inspectors had never heard of the M-pass, both on train and at stations, and I had to explain to to them. In some cases, ticket collectors were puzzled and a couple of times aggressive about it. In one case, a barrier guard angrily refused to let me enter the station as he was convinced it wasn't valid. Eventually, someone from the ticket office came to help and persuaded the man to let me through. But he wasn't completely convinced either, so was lucky not to miss my train. Hopefully, wider use might improve this, but for the moment I'd advise travelling with a printed copy too as backup and a link to the information explaining the ticket for untrained staff.

I booked first class to have more luggage room but didn't know reserving a seat is free ( In Germany it has an additional charge) so for my first trip I was in a a carriage two carriages down from my luggage because the train was so full. I think the reserving information could be provided at booking. Otherwise all was well.

The value is good but advise people to check online and compare advanced ticket prices, which might work out cheaper, if you know the time of your journey. The only issue regarding user Friendliness is at stations with electronic barriers where you have to find a staff member to let you through. Overcrowded trains are the reason I only give Experience Comfort and service a average rating. Thankfully I did go to the station and reserve seats for some of my journeys else I would have ended up standing. Although this may be inconvenient I would advise all uses to do this if they can. I did experience one part of a journey where I was told I was unable to reserve a seat several days in advance, only to find when I bordered the train that most of the seats were reserved for people who bought advanced tickets. I strongly feel you should be allowed to reserve seats on all trains with this pass if reservations are available. On another part of the same journey (I had to change trains) I found the seat I did reserve had no reservation card on it and someone was occupying the seat. To end on a positive note when it comes to public transport nothing beats the trains and it is far less stressful than renting a car.

I will be purchasing Flexi Rail Passes for future trips in UK. It made my travelling so much easier not worrying about risk of missing connecting trains. If I arrived earlier than expected I was able to get earlier train. Highly recommend.

Overall we found the trains an ideal way to travel from London, to Cambridge, to York and then Edinburgh. Our two slightly negative concerns were that as older, somewhat disabled ( we walk with a walker and a cane), and a couple traveling with two weeks worth of luggage, the overall accommodations were not as "handicapped-friendly" as we expected. Some rail staff were very accommodating and helpful, some were not. The luggage space was inadequate at times. There were helpful porters in some cases and no porters in others. Despite of disabilities, we had to handle our own luggage with carts at times. We did manage, but it was NOT "handicapped-friendly" in some cases. Other than that traveling first Class proved a convenience and comfortable...Yes, we'd do it again. DTR
